I had considered something like this for the new site, but the reason I removed it from the first site was because it seemed too gimmicky and it encouraged actions for no reason other than to gather points. People started posting useless content for to rack up points.
It also goes against one of my main overall themes of the site now in that it is a community site, not a popularity contest. The same reason that people's friends list is not public information anymore.
What are your thoughts on this as a feature? I'm mostly against it for the reasons I listed above, but willing to be convinced if there are good arguments for it.
